SPRING WILDFLOWER WALK - 2 to 4pm - A Mother's Day Wild Flower Walk and Talk

Wondering what do do for Mother's Day with your Mum and/or family? Bring Mum out to see the glorious spring ephemerals as they beckon the sun and call back the sunny warm weather to stay!! Flower identification, medicinal properties and edible properties will be discussed as well as points of interest regarding these lovely flowers. Bring a camera and or sketch pad to document this lovely time of year or just come with an open heart so they may permanently imprint themselves into your heart and soul!!! $15/person; children are free...!! Best to confirm day off due to weather, etc.

Materia medica I - in depth plant study and discussions of the most important herbs everyone should know - starts Feburary 14th, 2013 near Lambeth, ON at http://www.serenitynowyoga.ca/

An old herbalist once said, "Learn 30 herbs, and learn them well, and you will be able to treat most of what crosses your path." The finer details and specific characteristics of the herbs will be discussed. For example, it will help you to choose from a list of nervines - do you know when you need chamomile and when you turn to lavender?

Start date: Feburary 14th, for 8 Thursday mornings

Time : 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

How To Be Your Own Herbalist -

10 three hour sessions - 3 hours,1 day per week

Date - Starting February 7th, 2013

Location: Jaydancin and Zoe's Market Place, Lambeth

Time - 6:15 - 9:15pm

Includes introductory materia medica, herbal and tissue energetics, therapeutics, important patho/physiology, organoleptic pharmacology, essential nutrition and more.

PLANT CONSCIOUSNESS & HERBAL FIELD EXPERIENCE Program for 2013 - FULL

Time: One weekend per month from May to October - Saturdays 10 am to 5pm & Sundays 9am to 4 pm.

2013 Dates: May 4/5, June 1/2, July 6/7, Aug 17/18, Sept 14/15, Oct 26/27

Cost: $600 paid in full by May 1st (a deposit of $100 is required)

Accommodation: on site free camping (meals are not provided)

Program Description: 1 weekend per month intensive for 6 months; learning outcomes will focus on the practical side of herbal medicine. Topics discussed include wild crafting and harvesting herbs, edible wilds, herbal medicine preparations (Herbal Pharmacy), organoleptic pharmacology, plant identification, personal plant projects, plant consciousness/spirit medicine, group studies, and more!

 Although it is a field experience, the course will not only help one to learn about, as well as develop relationships on various levels with the plants in and around their garden but it is also about the real herbal medicine and that is herbs as a vehicle for a healing journey inward. It is an exercise of learning to fully trust ones self. It is a beautiful and transformative process with like minded people.

This program is accredited by Wild Rose College in fulfillment of their Herbal Pharmacy and Herbal Botany (70% or greater pass of final exam necessary). This course is also accredited by Dominion Herbal College.

ALCHEMY AND HERBS

Come and explore the secrets of this ancient study of transmutation. For centuries alchemy has been studied by many great scientists and leaders in their time, such as Paracelsus, Avicenna, Goethe, Newton, St Thomas Aquinas and Jung. Why so much interest? The Magnum opus - Greater Works as well as the Lesser Works, referred to as Plant Alchemy will be studied.

HERBAL STUDENT CLINIC TRAINING - on-going

For students of herbal medicine that are requiring clinical hours for professional membership to a herbalist association. Physical examinations, herbal dispensing, case history taking, interviewing skills and supervised patient intakes are covered. Cost: $10 per hour.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES Workshop -

Date: to be determined - 9am to 5pm; with a 1/2 hour break for a brown bag lunch

This informative one day workshop will cover what herbs and foods one should keep on hand in the event of an infectious disease outbreak in your community. Prevention strategies, herbal therapies, as well as learning the lost art of the extremely effective mustard plasters, poultices, steam inhalations, etc. will be demonstrated.

HILDEGARD VON BINGEN AND HERBS -

This 11th century visionary, nun and musician was also well known for her knowledge on health and herbs. In this talk we will take a look through Hildegard's eyes and see what she saw in the plants!! - Watch website for updates!!

 

TREE MEDICINES OF THE CAROLINIAN FORESTS - 10am to 4 PM.

In this workshop we will actually head out into the woods to learn how to identify trees and study them in all their splendor!! The medicinal and edible wonders of the precious trees will be discussed along with touching on some of the history and folklore reminding us of the importance of these forests. Bring a picnic lunch, hiking boots, dressed for the elements! $50.



A CULINARY CELEBRATION OF WEEDS

Does all good fresh home grown vegetables really have to come with lots of labor, sweat and tears? What if we did not have to buy the seeds, plant them, water them, hoe them and all the babying that our vegetables gardens require? With edible locally abundant weeds, we get the delicious and nutritious without the sweat and tears. HERBAL APPRENTICE - Part-time Position - NOT CURRENTLY TAKING NEW APPLICATIONS

I am looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person with a strong interest in nature and plants.

A successful applicant will:
· be an easy going and friendly person;
· have a strong desire to learn about herbal medicine;
· enjoy working in the elements;
· enjoy children;
· be committed and reliable for 2—3 days per week;
· have own transportation; and be physically able to work in herb gardens.

Learning will include, but not limited to::
· organic gardening;
· herbal material medical;
· herbal therapeutics;
· in-depth plant identification; and herbal medicine making.

This is a work exchange position.
